STATE LADIES’ AUXILIARY REPORT 2023
STATE LADIES AUXILIARY
MINUTES 2023
The Oregon State Ladies Auxiliary met August 18, 2023 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Bend. There were 24 ladies present with nine churches represented. Sister Rachel Hubbard of Bend led us with a song, “I’ll Fly Away”, and Sister Cathy Hoover of Nyssa opened our meeting in a word of prayer. Sister Terry Miller of Bend gave the “Welcome” and Sister Barbara Counts of Coquille gave the “Response”. Our President, Sister Brenda Rose of Grants Pass, gave her devotional, entitled “Waiting On The Lord”, which may be found elsewhere in the Minutes. Then, the Bend ladies presented their program, which began with a skit taking place in a home setting. The ladies had gathered and were chatting with a typical dialogue of current issues amongst themselves; even talking over one another, naturally, as their topics evolved. Sister Rena Keffer concluded the conversation by sharing a story about an injured eagle, and a poem, from a book of daily devotions. The eagle had been mortally wounded by a rifle shot. And as he lay dying, he gazed upward to the sky longing to be “home”. Just as the eagle longed for his home, so does the soul of man long to be at home with God, and must not lose that skyward look. The accompanying poem is a Japanese proverb entitled “Keep Looking Up”. It encourages us to maintain our focus on Christ during our daily lives. [Note: The book Sister Keffer shared this from contains copyright restrictions, otherwise I would quote it again here. Sister Chandler]
Following the program, we held our business session of the meeting. The letters were read and the messengers were seated. The 2022 minutes were read and corrected, to show that the officers elected at last year’s meeting were for the 2023 year, then approved as corrected. The 2022 treasurer's report was read and corrected, to show that the offering (of the day) was actually for Sister Dolores Vaughn, then approved as corrected. A motion carried that designated our 2023-2024 state goal to be Sister Glenda McCarn. Motion carried to give today's offering to Sister Glenda McCarn.
The following officers were elected for the 2024 meeting:
President: Sister Barbara Counts
Vice President: Sister Cathy Hoover
Secretary/Treasurer: Sister Gale Chandler
Asst. Secretary/Treasurer: Sister Dede Clements
We had no Miscellaneous Business. We heard reports from several ladies groups and took the offering which was $177.00; then we were dismissed in prayer by Sister Lynnette Dever of Roseburg.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Sister Gale Chandler, Secretary/Treasurer.
